What I’m reading

Little Eve by Catriona Ward This is the second book that I've read by Catriona Ward; the other I've read is The Last House On Needless Street. In both stories, I started thinking that I knew what was going on. This level of perceived predictability led to low engagement in the story; this is certainly … Continue reading What I’m reading

Update to Clean Freak

Author Sean Davis writes about his novel Clean Freak going out of print due to a publisher's business model change. He reflects on the book's tumultuous publishing journey and how he coped with related mental health struggles. Davis mentions the hope for future reprints and the opportunity to tell new stories, coming to the realization that his success doesn't hinge on this one book.

An experiment in publishing

Rather than talk about how I developed this story from an idea I jotted in my notebook under the working title, "Mirror Mad," I'm going to go through the thought process behind my decision to publish this story on Kindle myself, and what that process was actually like.

“Running with zombies,” without the warm up

I wrote "Running with Zombies" completely from the hip. In other words, I didn't do any notebook work for it, which is weird for me. In the age old debate between pantsers and planners, I put myself squarely halfway between pantsers and planners, haha. I don't plot out every single detail about my plot before … Continue reading “Running with zombies,” without the warm up

Clean Freak, the Beginning

It all started while I was cleaning my bathroom. Cleaning is a rather meditative activity for me. Not to say I enjoy it. Contrary to what one reviewer postulated about me, I am not really a clean freak myself. However, I do like the chance to let my mind wander and the repetitive motion … Continue reading Clean Freak, the Beginning

Instead of answering one of the questions from Flint Horror Collective's Beyond the Book panel, I wanted to post my schedule for Penguicon, happening this weekend, April 24-26, at the Westin in Southfield, MI. If you live in the Metro Detroit Area, I highly recommend attending. It's a lot of fun and it has something … Continue reading Penguicon 2015 Schedule

Blog Tour Post

This week, I'll be answering some questions about my writing process for a Blog Tour that Michael Cieslak included me on. Michael is a Board Member for the Great Lakes Association of Horror Writers and writer and editor. His latest anthology, Desolation: 21 Tales for Tails, includes tales of loneliness, isolation, and abandonment. A portion … Continue reading Blog Tour Post

Hey, it's been a long time. Too long. I will endeavor to be better about posting here regularly with what I'm up to, appearances, progress, thoughts about writing and all the other fun stuff in this writer's life I lead. I'm going to begin catching up with what's happened most recently. Today, I and some … Continue reading Theme

Being Interviewed

On Friday, I gave my first interview for a feature article about me and Clean Freak. It was a thrilling experience. The interviewers (there were three of them!) were quite nice. Most of the questions were pretty straight-forward, but one surprised me. They asked what I hoped my readers would take away from reading Clean … Continue reading Being Interviewed
