About a month ago, I posted that one of my goals in 2025 was to write a chapter a week. In the last month since that post, I’ve written one chapter.
It would be easy to get discouraged. But I’m not letting myself.
I’ve also written twenty-two pages of notes, including outlining and beats for chapter 2. If last year was about proving to myself that I could finish a story all the way to the end (which I did), then this year is an improvement on that, as well as proving to myself that I can write a better first draft than Codename: Memories.
Chapter 1 felt great to write, was well paced, and did exactly what I wanted the first chapter to do and be. After a reread, I can also see that I can expand on it in a second draft.
I’m also toying with the idea of making the chapter I’m about to write chapter 1 and tweaking the one that’s already written to chapter 2. But I have to write the damn thing first.
Luckily, I’ve got a couple easy weeks at my day job coming up and a vacation at the end of the month. Most nights, I fall asleep thinking about my story. I’m going to go over all my notes for chapter 2 one more time and probably start it this week.

When I searched the word momentum, I got a lot of bike pics for some reason. Who am I to pass up an excuse to share a bike pic? So my image may be a bit of a non sequitur, but that’s the reason behind it.
