What I’ve been working on

I haven’t wanted to write this post this week because I haven’t been working on my story. Last month, I wrote about endless creativity and how my creative energies ebb and flow to different areas at times. I wrote about that because I felt like I needed to justify myself in not working on my story.

But this month, I don’t know if I have much of an excuse.

I think I’m all right with that though.

One thing that I’ve written about a lot since restarting my blog is discipline and how school, with its many deadlines, conditions intrinsic motivation out of people. At least, it conditioned it out of me.

Reading an article about the difference between a pleasurable reward vs. a painful punishment in motivating behavior, I was surprised to read that avoiding pain is a more powerful motivator than seeking pleasure. I would have thought that positive reinforcement beat out negative avoidance. But what do I know?

So I didn’t want to write this post this week, until I had something to show for it. So I bought myself a new pen today for what will eventually come as the second phase of Project: Memory.

And I also finished chapter 7 today!
